Ruel Pardee Tolman (1878-1954) was a painter, etcher, writer, and was working in a museum in Washington, D.C., during the time these cards were received. His wife Nelly Summerhill McKenzie Tolman (1877-1961), a native of North Carolina, was a miniature painter. (Both are listed in Who was Who in American Art.) They had a daughter named Sarah. Mantle Fielding was an architect and authority on colonial painting. Born in New York City, the son of Mantle and Anna M. Stone, he was educated at the Germantown (Pa.) Academy. He graduated in 1883 and then studied architecture at MIT.
